What Is Toxic Mold?

Mold spores spread in the air and over 24,000 spores can fit on a postage stamp. Air-conditioning causes currents of air to flow within a building and as the air is pulled into the air filter pickup or return, it creates a draft that causes the spores to travel throughout the building.

Chemical sprays or "HEPA" vacuuming systems are largely ineffective. To ensure a mold free home, it is necessary to destroy every spore that exists in the home. Sprays cannot do this. When you run a vacuum in your home, you often miss a spot. That spot could possibly contain 24,000 spores which will eventually form new colonies.

Mold spores have a long life and can live in a dormant state for centuries. The only thing they need to revive and spread is moisture and warmth. Termites like wood, but mold likes it all and that is why they are a real menace to a structure. However, a termite is not a killer, but mold can be deadly to humans.

The reason they are so dangerous is a substance called mycotoxins. Mycotoxins are a substance that mold secrets as a defense mechanism. Mold, like all living things, wants to live and survive. The result is the production of toxins that are allergenic and at worst…TOXIC. There are literally thousands of mold species that produce this toxin and according to the CDC, it is indeed a major problem.

The procedure for Ozonating a structure is as follows:

  • Isolate the building envelope (close exits and leak points)
  • Introduce ozone hoses and place at the highest point in the building
  • Configure the ventilation system to run in full recirculation mode.
  • Place an ozone generator hose inside the ductwork.
  • Engage the ozone generators and monitor building levels
  • Operate the system for a specified time period until the levels reach the desired PPM (parts per Million) level.
  • Upon completion, vent the building with outdoor air.
  • Verify no residual ozone is left in building before entering.
